She rolls the window down
and she
Talks over the sound
of the cars that pass us by
and I don’t know why
but she’s changed my mind

Yusuke watched the woman sitting next to him from corner of his eye as he drove down the road, going way faster than the legal speed limit. She didn’t seem to mind though. Her laughter echoed through the car as she talked merrily over anything and nothing all at the same time. She smiled and rolled the once closed window down, cool air whipping through the opened window, causing her (color) hair to go flying in every direction. The cars around passed by in a whirlwind of dull shades of grays and blues and the occasional red. She pushed her hair from her face and peered over at the man driving, her eyes meeting soft brown one’s for a moment.

Would you look at her
She looks at me
She’s got me thinking about her constantly
But she don’t know how I feel
And as she carries on without a doubt
I wonder if she’s figured out
I’m crazy for this girl

“What?” she laughed. Yusuke smiled and looked back out to the road.

“It’s nothing (Name).” he returned her laugh with one of his one. He had to keep telling himself that it was just that, nothing. Yusuke had known the woman next to him for most of his life, their mothers being long lost friends and drinking partners. They had been together since the diaper days! But one day when (Name) was 14, she was gone. Now, this was nothing new. (Name) s mother would do this every six months or so. She would screw things up with her current boy toy, it would get violent ((Name) usually being at the rash end of things), and they would go stay with (Name)’s grandmother for a month or two. But this time was different. He had went to go pick (Name) up one weekend afternoon. It was her birthday, and he had intended to spend the whole day with her. He had stayed there, sitting on the porch swing, all day, just waiting for her to come home. He had something important to talk to her about...

He never got the chance. Apparently late the night before things had gotten particularly bad. (Name) and her mother had gotten into another fight. Tomorrow was her birthday, and all she wanted was her mother to be there, sober for once. …

~~ Flash Back~~
“Please mom!?” you begged, clinging to the older woman’s arms desperately.

“Oh stop being such a baby (Name)! It’s just your birthday! It’s not like there’s not going to be others!” Your mother replied, tugging her arms furiously.

“But that’s just it! It’s my birthday ! Cant you just stay home this once!?” You screamed, placing your butt on the ground, preventing your mother from moving.

“For Christ’s sake, let go of me!”

“No!”

“(Name), I'm warning you!!”

“Just one night, Please!? You promised me!”

“So what, I make promises all the time that I don’t intend to keep! Now let go of me (First name) (Middle Name) (Last Name)!”

“Fine!” you screamed, letting the woman’s arms go. She stumbled backwards, sending you an evil look.

“If you leave, I won’t be here when you come back!” You returned her icy stare with one of your own, trying to conceal the tears that threatened to fall from your eyes. She chuckled sadistically.

“And where are you going to go?” She spat back, grabbing her bag. “There’s money on the counter, order yourself a pizza or something.” She slammed the door behind her. You sat on the floor sobbing for a good half hour before you glance at a clock. It was already late in the evening, but you grabbed the phone off the counter and dialed a number quickly.

“Daddy…?” you whispered through your sobs when a male answered.

~~ End Flashback~~

(Mother’s Name) had come home drunk, yet again, with some strange man on her arm. When she walked in she was met by an empty house. She wouldn’t have even noticed that you were gone if there hadn’t been a police officer at her door. It seems that one of the neighbors had called the police for a possible break in. The police had informed her mother that (Name) s father came, packed her stuff, and they were gone.

Yusuke didn’t even get to say goodbye…

After that day, Yusuke died, both literally and figuratively. When he had become spirit detective, he had almost begged Koenma to find you. The short ruler of the spirit world had to decline. Yusuke was so angry with the small ruler; he nearly broke everything in Koenma’s office.

She was the one to hold me
the night
the sky fell down
and what was I thinking when
the world didn’t end
why didn’t I know what I know now

Yusuke’s 18th birthday changed everything. He knew that something odd was going on within his erratic group of friends. The whole week before they had been avoiding him like he had the plague. When he happened to get a few moments alone with one of them they acted strange, like they were trying to keep a forbidden secret from him...

The night before his birthday, Yusuke’s mind wandered to old days. He found himself thinking even more now a days about (Name). Wondering where she was, what she was doing, who she was with. And the thought of her being with anyone angered the short tempered youth to no end. Why? He wasn’t sure. But all he knew was that no one in this world, or any other, was good enough for her. Not even him. He sighed at that realization. That’s why, he concluded, that he settled for Kayko so easily. She was a stable person, kept him in check, and most of all, she was there.

He went and picked Kayko up as usual, and continued his way to Genki’s temple. The old hag had summoned him there on that night, demanding that he show up for special training. Why he was bringing Kayko? He wasn’t sure, all he was told was to bring her. Once they reached the temple, he picked Kayko up like he usually did, racing up the long staircase. He blinked stopping short when he reached the top step.

“Happy Birthday!” Everyone yelled in unison at the obviously shocked boy. The yard in front of Genki’s temple was decorated for the event. Everyone was there, Botan, Koenma, Hiei (although you could blatantly see that he’d rather be anywhere else), Kurama, Kuabara, and Yukina. Even Jin, Cho, and the rest of them had ventured from Makai to join in on the celebration.

But one person in particular had caught his attention. (Color) orbs met brown; a bright face smiled from the back of the group as everyone gathered around the teenager. He hadn’t meant to be rude if it came off that way, but he couldn’t help pushing through the crowed, his eyes never leaving hers; almost afraid that if he blinked, she’d be gone. Everyone stopped and watched the scene play out before there eye.

Yusuke stopped short of you, examining your features intently. You subconsciously wrapped your arms around yourself, you smile never faltering one bit. You hadn’t changed much over the years, Yusuke noted to himself. Your (length/color) hair moved with the wind around you. You had filled out in all the right places, and the outfit you wore clung loosely to your form. His eyes trailed up to your face before he reached out a shaky hand, resting it on your forearm. You laughed before taking him in your arms in a tight embrace. Oh god how he missed your laugh and the feeling of your body pressed against his in a hug.

“Happy Birthday, Yusuke.” You said in a soft voice, releasing the shocked man.

Kayko watched the way Yusuke held (Name) tenderly. She couldn’t help but feel the pang of jealousy that struck her, hard. Who was this girl? And why was Yusuke so happy to see her? She knew that she was being stupid and naive, after all Yusuke was her boyfriend. But why hadn’t anyone told her that (Name) was going to be there? Of course she knew almost instantly who she was. Yusuke had talked about her several different times, and Kayko knew how fond of her he was. She almost ventured to say that he loved the (color) haired (color) eyed girl… she shoved the thought, almost violently, to the back of her mind. It couldn’t be that, Yusuke loved her, and only her.

“Kayko,” Yusuke said, dragging the girl through the crowd of people, making his way towards his girlfriend. She smiled softly at the approaching pair, trying to put on her best happy face.

“Yes Yusuke?” She spoke in that oh so sweet tone that she was known for.

“This is (Name), the girl I told you about! (Name), this is my girlfriend Kayko.” He beamed at his girlfriend. Kayko’s eyes met with yours. You smiled at her and extended your hand in greeting.

“HI!” you said, your voice as happy has the look on your face. Kayko grimaced slightly, returning your smile before she thought you noticed.

“It’s nice to meet you,” she spoke with an underlining malice tone. Your smile faltered briefly.

“You too,” You spoke, the tone in your voice just as pleasant as before. You squeezed Yusuke’s hand that was tightly grasped around yours.

“Hey Yusuke, I’m going to get something to drink. Want anything?”

“Nope, I’m good.” He half smiled as you let go of his hand and moved away from him, feeling slightly uncomfortable. After you left, Yusuke glared lightly at Kayko, catching her eyes with his. What the hell was wrong with the girl?  Yusuke crossed his arms waiting for her to explain.

“What?” She replied a moment later, breaking eye contact with her now peeved boyfriend.

“Care to explain what that was about?” He said smoothly.

“What are you talking about Yusuke?” she laughed and grabbed one of his hands in hers. He quickly pulled his hand from hers, glaring. Damn it. He had noticed.

“I-It’s nothing Yusuke, really!” Kayko laughed and quickly changed the subject.

“Great Birthday present hmm?” she smiled widely. Yusuke just watched her for a moment before sighing.

“Yeah, the best ever,” He smiled and looked over at (Name), who was conversing with Jin and Kurama at the table where the refreshments were.

Frankly, Kayko hated you, and you couldn’t say that you cared much for her. The whole party she had sent various glares and death treats at you, warning you with her eyes. You sighed inwardly, positioning yourself next to the bond fire that Kurama and Koenma had started once the sun had began to fall beneath the horizon. Everyone else had gathered around a table a few feet away, all exchanging conversations and presents with the dark haired boy. You had to admit that you had felt greatly uncomfortable being here amongst strangers.  You were scared half to death a week ago when a blue haired pink eyed woman had approached you calming to know Yusuke Urameshi.  You didn’t trust her at first, everything seeming almost surreal. You didn’t know her, and she didn’t know you. But she claimed that she did.

So you listened to her estranged tale. And a tale it was.  She had told you, more or less, about everything that had happened in your absence. She told you about how Yusuke died, and about how he became a spirit detective. She even told you about the dark tournament, Yusuke being a half demon; she even told you about Kurama and Hiei. Why was she telling you all of this?

One simple reason…

She was nosey and knew that Yusuke held you dear to his heart. That was all the reason she needed to re unite the two of you. Of course Koenma had no clue until you showed up at Yusuke’s party, much to everyone surprise.  They had exchanged words in the privacy of Genki’s temple, while you sat outside with a drooling Kuabara and a smiling Kurama. You weren’t really sure why you chose to listen to the blue haired girl now known as Botan, maybe it was the prospect of seeing your best friend again. The hope had always been kept alive in your heart that you would see him again, and you hoped that he hadn’t hated you for what you did. You were still a child seeking stability in your life.  A gentle hand on your shoulder had pulled you from your thoughts. You looked up, catching the worried look on Yusuke’s face. You smiled and he took a seat next to you draping his arm around you lightly as you laughed. Kayko sat next to him and found her eyes laying on you. Her heart jerked and tightened in her chest. The look on Yusuke’s face…It was bright with happiness, something she hadn’t seen in the young man in a long time…

Hiei disappeared the moment after cake and ice cream had been served. You had been told how over protective Hiei had been over his ice cream, but you had never thought it was this bad. He actually stole the whole gallon! Good thing everyone was prepared, and thus another one had been brought out the moment the fire apparition disappeared. After that, everyone began to go there separate directions. You lingered a moment longer, wishing to say goodbye to your long lost friend.

“Kayko, what the hell’s wrong with you!?” your attention was redirected from the flower peddle you were looking at to Yusuke.  You saw him tremble slightly in anger.

“I want to break up Yusuke! I can’t take this anymore!” She yelled back at him, her body trembling as she sobbed.

“Take what!? I don’t understand!” He said, his arms, dropping down to his sides.

“That’s just it! You don’t understand!” She screamed, turning away from him. You couldn’t help but watch in horror. Yusuke shuddered.

“Whatever.” He said, sounding calm. He shoved his hands into his pockets, turned, and walked off into the forest. Kayko sobbed, falling to her knees. You instantly went to her side and place a comforting hand on her shoulder. She snapped around and looked at you harshly. You didn’t waver in your movements until she pulled away from you harshly.

“I hope you’re happy!” she yelled, running towards the temple with her face in her hands. You stood shocked. What the heck had this to do with you? You sighed in understanding and looked at the door the young woman had gone through. Kurama came up to you a few moments later and smiled.

“Are you alright Miss (Name)?” his voice was soft and held a deep concern for your well being.

“Yeah, I need to go find Yusuke.” You said softly, giving the man a reassuring smile. He nodded his agreement and you ran off in the direction that Yusuke had disappeared in.

The forest was much darker and scarier than you had expected. Strange noises could be heard all around you and it began to scare the hell out of you. The noises coming from this forest were unnatural. Hoots and hollers, screeching and abnormal cries echoed throughout the vicinity. Oh god, what the hell had you gotten yourself into? The only thing that kept you going was the thought of Yusuke. You had to find him and make sure that he was okay. He was a half demon, so you knew that he could take care of himself, but something deep in your heart told you that he wasn’t okay.

The branch above your head creaked, causing you to lose your nerve. Your eyes snapped upwards. Your eyes darted through the branches before you saw a black clad figure sitting high above you.

“Hiei?” you said. The fire apparition looked down at you with a slightly amused and astounded look, but was quickly replaced by an intense glare. What was with these people and their glares tonight!?

“What in the world do you think your doing out here?” Hiei spoke in a chilled tone.

“I'm looking for Yusuke.”

“And why do you think he’d want to be found?”

“I don’t care if he dose. Do you know where he is?” You asked hopefully. The fire demon sneered at you and went back to ignoring you. You sighed and looked around, finally picking a direction to walk in. You took a few steps, hearing Hiei mutter something about stupid and idiotic women.

By the grace of some God, you found your way to a clearing in the dead center of the forest. It was absolutely stunning. In the middle of the clearing sat a pristine blue lake, the full moon above shimmering off its perfect surface. You were torn from your thoughts by the sound of crying. You search for a good ten minutes before you finally came upon the source of the sound.

“Yusuke?” you voice came in a hushed whisper. He snapped around quickly, his eyes as big as saucers.

“(N-Name), what are you doing here?” He yelped, wiping at his eyes furiously. You moved closer to him and vaguely noticed the tear streaks on his cheeks.

“Do you know how dangerous that forest is, especially at night?” he scolded. You shifted slightly and looked down at the ground like a small child being scolded by your father.

“Yeah…But that doesn’t matter.” You walked over to him and kneeled down in front of him, catching his eyes with your own. You smiled and brushed a few unshed tears from his beautiful brown orbs. “All that matter’s is that I know that you’re okay.”

He looked shocked for a moment, before throwing his arms around you, nuzzling his head into your abdomen as a fresh set of tears began to fall from his eyes; soaking the fabric of your shirt within minutes.

Would you look at her
She looks at me
She’s got me thinking about her constantly
But she don’t know how I feel
And as she carries on without a doubt

I’m crazy for this girl

That was five months ago. You had sat there for a good three hours, just cradling Yusuke in your arms, until his tears could no longer fall. Yusuke had tried to mend things with Kayko, at your request; but things didn’t seem to turn out the way you had hoped. You had gone back to the small town you lived in with your father and step mother. Yusuke had come to see you almost every day.

Today was unlike the others though. Yusuke had requested that you accompanied him somewhere, although he wouldn’t tell you where. You smiled and, of course, agreed to go with your best friend with out hesitation. Your father and Yusuke exchanges words while you were upstairs getting ready, and when you came back down; your father placed a kiss upon your forehead and smiled as you left.

“…Are you listening to me Yusuke?” your voice broke the silence as he looked at you, his eyes leaving the road.

“Sorry (name), guess I was spacing out.”  You chuckled at this. Typical Yusuke.

“I said you better slow down, we may miss our stop, wherever that may be.”

“Oh, right.” He laughed and slowed down to normal speed. Your eyes scanned the surroundings as the car began to come to a halt.

You were shocked to say the least…

Your mouth hung open slightly at the sight before you. The sun had begun to set cascading the skies in colors of reds, oranges, and blues. You gasp, your hand instantly covering your mouth.  In the middle of an open field sat out a beautiful (favorite color) silk blanket, (favorite flower) peddles laid beautifully all around. The small area was lit dimly by candles, making the atmosphere almost magical.

You, in a state of shock, jumped slightly as a pair of arms snuck themselves around your waist. You looked up, your eyes wide and full of shock, met the smirking face of none other that Yusuke.

“You like it?”  Yusuke whispered lightly into your year. Your face heated up as you blinked in confusion.

“Y-Yes, It’s absolutely beautiful.” You said breathlessly.

“Good,” Yusuke said, releasing you only so he could turn you so you faced him.

“It’s going to make this a lot easier then.” He took a deep breath in, and released it in a soft hiss. Your heart speed up and your stomach churned as Yusuke dropped down, catching your lips in a soft, yet demanding kiss. Fire began to course through your body, butterflies making themselves known almost instantly. You froze in your place, not really sure what was happening. A moment later your instincts kicked in, and you began to kiss back; running your fingers up his cheek until you met the soft locks of his hair. Yusuke smiled into the kiss and ended it as soon as he started it. He leaned forward and set his forehead against yours.

“I think I’m in love with you (Name).” he said, wrapping his arms around you. You couldn’t help but smile.

“And I think I'm in love with you.” You said catching the surprised mans lips with your own.

The rest off the night was spent in bliss, the two of you just holding each other under the moon light skies.

Right now
Face to face
All my fears
Pushed aside
And right now
I’m ready to spend the rest of my life
With you
